Beetaloo Basin Fracking: Is the Beetaloo NT Region Fracking dangerous?

Now, What Exactly is Fracking?

Fracking is also known as Hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing is the process in which underground rocks are broken in order to release trapped oil and gas. Hydraulic fracturing is a very efficient method for gathering resources and overall a useful way to source natural gas. The type of gas that is sourced from fracking (or hydraulic fracturing) isn’t conventional gas, but instead an unconventional gas called shale gas. Unconventional resources are oil and gas contained in hard rock that must be broken into for it to be sourced.

Is Beetaloo Basin Fracking Dangerous to Humans and Animals?

No, the chemicals used in fracking are common additives. The chemicals are diluted and are used in small percentages. Water makes up about 98-99% of the mix. The groundwater is protected by the multiple layers of cement and steel separating the underground layers of rock and the well. The secure walls and drilling have no effect on humans or animals.

What About the Security of the land and water?

Fracking wouldn’t be possible without the approval of the NT Government. Fracking in the Northern Territory has been occurring for more than 40 years and has always been regulated to keep risks at a minimum. This is where our environmental management plans come into place, which have been approved by the Department of Environment.
